Ahhhh , It's been too long!

Ahhhh, it's been too long since my last post! My apologies. I wish I had a good excuse or a really great story to tell, but to be perfectly honest I've been a bit side tracked lately. With the technological advances of today everything is instantaneous, bigger, brighter, and more accessible than ever. Don't get me wrong I will be the first to admit I love my smart phone, 4K computer screen, and the ability to buy or sell to anyone in the world with just a click of a button, but as of late I've been feeling nostalgic for things from my past. Thus, I've been playing my Game Boy Color and I've just recently upgraded to a Game Boy Advance SP outfitted with an AGS-101 backlit screen. There's something about the simplicity of the old NES games that captured my attention when they were first released and still have a hold on me to this day.

Here's a little sketch I did of my new used Game Boy Advance SP. I almost scrapped it before I had a chance to finish it. I had my preliminary drawing completed and I had just started on filling in the bottom half of the device and my marker bled everywhere, I was obsessing over the divots in which the buttons sat feeling like they weren't defined enough, and my black lines weren't straight and steady enough for my liking. But for some reason I walked away for a second and when I came back and looked at it from a few feet away I felt it wasn't as bad as I had originally thought. Sometimes it's helpful to step back from your work and see it at a distance. When I'm right up on the piece I start to nit pick every little flaw. From there I pressed forward, but I had decided I would use my Micron pens for the detailed parts of my cartridges. As I'm still preoccupied with minute imperfections, I'll confess that the drawing isn't as tightly executed as I would have hoped, but perhaps I chose the wrong medium.
